The problem we are trying to solve

Most robotic mower advice is a ranked list. The trouble is that the ranking almost never decides whether a mower will work on your lawn.

A bank it cannot climb. A narrow passage the manufacturer does not document. Trees that spoil its satellite fix. A front yard it has no way of reaching from the back. Any one of these turns the "best" mower into the wrong purchase — and none of them show up in a top-ten list.

So we start from your yard instead. You describe the conditions; the selector rules out the machines that cannot handle them and explains what you would be accepting with the ones that remain.

How to read this site

Three things are worth knowing before you rely on anything here.

We have not tested these mowers. Everything here is analysis of what manufacturers publish, with a link to the source for every number. That is a real limitation, and we would rather state it than imply a shed full of test machines we do not have.

Blanks are common, and they are not criticism. When a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we say so rather than guessing. A mower with a thin spec sheet is not a worse mower — it is a mower whose maker tells you less. Treat a blank as a question for the seller.

We do not name winners. There is no "best robot mower" here, because the answer genuinely depends on your lawn size, slope, layout, navigation constraints and installation requirements. What we offer instead is the ability to eliminate the wrong ones quickly and understand the trade-offs among the rest.

What we cover

Robotic mowers sold in the United States for residential lawns. We track a deliberately small number of models properly rather than a long list badly, and we would rather add a model slowly than pad the count.

How this is paid for

We expect to earn a commission when readers buy through some of our links. That is disclosed wherever such a link appears, and it changes nothing about what we write: no brand can pay to be included, recommended, or ranked more favorably. The methodology explains exactly how that separation works, rather than just promising it.

What we are not

Not a retailer, not an importer, not an installer, not a repair shop. We hold no stock and handle no warranty claims.

Anything involving blades, batteries or safety sensors: follow the manufacturer's documentation, not us.

Getting it wrong

We will sometimes be out of date or mistaken. Specifications change quietly and manufacturers occasionally contradict themselves. If something here disagrees with a current manufacturer source, the manufacturer is right — and we would like to know so we can fix it with a fresh verification date.
